Online MBA FAQ

GMAT

Q: Do you require the GMAT or can I take the GRE?
A: Because the GMAT is for business specifically, we require the GMAT. If you have taken the GRE, we can evaluate it but you will not likely fare as well as if you took the GMAT.

Q: What is the WSU Online MBA GMAT code?
A: The GMAT code is 09D-TL-25.

Q: How long is the GMAT score valid?
A: The GMAT is good for five years.

Q: Where can I take the GMAT?
A: MBA.com will help you find the testing location closest to you. You can register for the exam at this site.

Q: How much does the GMAT cost?
A: $250

TOEFL (for International Students)

Q: What is the TOEFL requirement?
A: 580 paper-based score, 237 computer-based score, or 92-93 Internet-based test score (IBTS)

Q: Do you accept IALC or IELTS in lieu of the TOEFL?
A: Yes, you must pass level 6 at IALC or 7.5 of IELTS.

Q: How long is the TOEFL score valid?
A: The TOEFL is good for two years.

Q: I went to a U.S. (or English speaking) school. Can you waive the TOEFL?
A: We may waive the TOEFL if you have completed the degree or attended the English speaking institution in the last two years. However, we may also request that you take the TOEFL if any of your supporting application documents indicate that we should seek additional evidence of your proficiency in English and ultimately in your ability to successfully complete the many complex reading and writing assignments in the program.

Admission

Q: I have less than a 3.0 GPA but I went to college a long time ago. Is there a chance I can get in?
A: Please apply and send your official transcript(s) and supporting application documents so that we can formally evaluate your previous experience. In general, a GPA below 2.75 will require remedial work.

Q: Can I apply now and defer my admission if I am accepted?
A: If you apply and are accepted but choose not to accept our offer, you have a one-time option of moving your application to a future term without having to pay the application fee again. You must make the request prior to the first day of the original application term. You will not automatically be offered admission because your application will be evaluated with that term’s applicant pool.

Q: I have heard that getting a master’s degree from the same institution as my bachelor’s is undesirable. Is that true?
A: MBA programs are much different from specialized master’s degrees in that they are comprised of courses from a number of discipline areas in business. It is not likely that you will experience a lack of diversity of thought if you choose to earn your MBA from WSU if you were a WSU undergraduate.

Foundation Courses

Q: Can I waive some of the foundation courses?
A: You may have had courses that are equivalent to the courses listed. Please apply and send your official transcripts so we can formally evaluate your previous experience.

Q: Do the foundation courses expire?
A: No, if you have been working, it is likely you have remained up to date in these areas.

Q: Can I enroll in foundation courses and the MBA simultaneously?
A: No, the foundation courses must be complete with an average GPA of 3.0 or better with no more than two grades below a B prior to enrolling in the MBA program.

Core Courses

Q: Can I waive some of the core requirements?
A: No. The core of the MBA curriculum is the required curriculum for all WSU MBA degrees and we must offer and require these for our accreditation.

Q: I took some of these courses in another MBA program. Can I count them toward my degree at WSU?
A: No. You can request that two of your elective courses be transferred from another AACSB accredited school but the College of Business will have to review the transcript of that program to determine if the elective(s) can be counted toward your WSU MBA.

Q: What is the minimum GPA I have to get in these classes?
A: The minimum GPA for graduate students at WSU is 3.0.

Q: How long do I have to complete the Online MBA?
A: You may take up to six years to complete the Online MBA.
